First Congregational U.C.C. Charlevoix –
Weekly Newsletter July 23, 2020
Welcome to our weekly newsletter!
To My New Church Family!
I am SO excited to be here at 1st Congregational UCC of Charlevoix! Now that I’ve gotten settled in the office and done some preliminary orientation with Greg, Leah, Alice, and other helpful folks, I want to dive into my top priority for the next few months…GETTING TO KNOW YOU!
To that end, I would like to schedule personal visits with each and every one of you. Whenever possible, I would like these visits to take place in or at your homes, following every social distancing and safety protocol. If we could sit outside on a patio or on lawn chairs 6 feet apart that would be great. If you’d prefer to take a walk around your neighborhood, that would be fantastic as well. Or, if you’d feel better meeting at the church patio or in a local park, I’m completely up for that as well. Whatever we do and wherever we meet, rest assured we’ll both wear masks and be super safe throughout our time together.
My goal for these visits is very simple: I want to hear and learn about your life. The more I know about each of you, the more effectively I will be able to minister to this congregation’s needs. What I DON’T want to do in these visits is eat or share a meal. Someday we’ll do that, but for now I don’t want a single ounce of your energy going into food preparation, cleaning your house, nor anything else that will create stress or take the focus off our getting to know one another. If you are a person who tends to want to clean your house from top to bottom whenever someone is coming over, please select the option of meeting somewhere else, where we can walk or talk without any of those pressures.
Leah has composed an easy Google Form that you will find below. Please take the time right now to fill that out and get it back to her, so we can schedule your visit as soon as possible. I am so excited to begin my journey with you and this congregation.
Please Note: If you have already sent in your RSVP, you do not need to do it again. We will be calling you to schedule soon!
The First Congregational Church has been a fixture in Charlevoix since it was built in 1883. It received a significant renewal, expansion and painting twenty years ago and spot paint refurbishment ten years ago. Time and weather have been relentless, and it is now time to do a complete paint renewal. Another reason to present a fresh face to the community is to celebrate the arrival of our new minister this week – Pastor Toby Jones.
We are pleased with our selection of Arnold Painting to return the luster to our church. The work involves significant scraping and priming of many surfaces in addition to a new top finish coat.
Because of the overall height of the church and the bell tower the painting job requires the use of two manlifts to safely access all surfaces that require painting.
This is an expensive undertaking at a cost of $65,800. We are asking members and friends of the First Congregational Church to help defray costs by contributing to the financial support so that we do not have to deplete a number of smaller funds that support unbudgeted expenditures that arise throughout the year.
Donations should be made out to First Congregational Church with “Painting Fund” on the memo line. An online donation can be made by accessing our churches website, and clicking on the ONLINE GIVING section, or you may send a check to the following:
