Celebration Welcome and Church Service in the Garden
We invite you to share in the Welcome for Toby Jones in the garden of the First Congregational Church UCC of Charlevoix on August 16th at 10am. Our welcome of Toby will be combined with and take place in the context of a worship service. Please know that all the morning’s proceedings will be videotaped for those more comfortable staying at home.
To keep all of us safe, there will be 2 entrances to the garden, with members of the Search Committee there to assist you every step of the way. We will also keep a participation and attendance record for this event to comply with the public health recommendations for such gatherings.
We will set up chalked demarcations for “social distanced” family areas. There will be circles large enough for groups or families who are in the same household.
All of us attending are required to wear masks and maintain a safe distance from other persons not in your immediate group. Bring umbrellas for rain and sun protection, water, and chairs.
If you plan to attend the garden celebration, please RSVP to the church office by clicking on the Google Invite link below. Again, this is required for compliance with local health department guidelines.
Please note that in the event of rain, there will be a Drive Through Welcome at 11:00 a.m.
We really look forward to seeing everyone on the 16th. It will be so great to worship together in person.

The Painting Project is Now Under Way!
The First Congregational Church has been a fixture in Charlevoix since it was built in 1883. It received a significant renewal, expansion and painting twenty years ago and spot paint refurbishment ten years ago. Time and weather have been relentless, and it is now time to do a complete paint renewal. Another reason to present a fresh face to the community is to celebrate the arrival of our new minister this week – Pastor Toby Jones.
We are pleased with our selection of Arnold Painting to return the luster to our church. The work involves significant scraping and priming of many surfaces in addition to a new top finish coat.
Because of the overall height of the church and the bell tower the painting job requires the use of two manlifts to safely access all surfaces that require painting.
This is an expensive undertaking at a cost of $65,800. We are asking members and friends of the First Congregational Church to help defray costs by contributing to the financial support so that we do not have to deplete a number of smaller funds that support unbudgeted expenditures that arise throughout the year.
Donations should be made out to First Congregational Church with “Painting Fund” on the memo line. An online donation can be made by accessing our churches website, and clicking on the ONLINE GIVING section, or you may send a check to the following:

We would like to thank you in advance for your prayerful consideration to this important project for our church building.
The Church is Deployed!
Betty Wadland and the Outreach Committee did a great job on the “wear your mask” banner they designed and ordered for the community. It looks awesome!!
