Celebration Welcome and Church Service in the Garden
We invite you to share in the Welcome for Toby Jones in the garden of the First Congregational Church UCC of Charlevoix on August 16th at 10am. Our welcome of Toby will be combined with and take place in the context of a worship service. Please know that all the morning’s proceedings will be videotaped for those more comfortable staying at home.
To keep all of us safe, there will be 2 entrances to the garden, with members of the Search Committee there to assist you every step of the way. We will also keep a participation and attendance record for this event to comply with the public health recommendations for such gatherings.
We will set up chalked demarcations for “social distanced” family areas. There will be circles large enough for groups or families who are in the same household.
All of us attending are required to wear masks and maintain a safe distance from other persons not in your immediate group. Bring umbrellas for rain and sun protection, water, and chairs.
If you plan to attend the garden celebration, please RSVP to the church office by clicking on the Google Invite link below. Again, this is required for compliance with local health department guidelines.
Please note that in the event of rain, there will be a Drive Through Welcome at 11:00 a.m.
We really look forward to seeing everyone on the 16th. It will be so great to worship together in person.

-If you haven’t already done so, please RSVP by 2:30 pm Thursday, August 13th by using the Google form above. If you are having trouble, please contact the church office. Thank you!
I want to say a BIG Thank You to all of you who have welcomed me into your homes in the last 3 weeks. What a pleasure and privilege it has been to hear your stories, see where you live, and get to know you. I have been so impressed with your rich experiences, your diversity of views, and your deep love for your church. If you haven’t yet made an appointment for me to meet with you, please call the church office or return the completed Google Form Leah sent.
This Sunday is a significant one in the life of our congregation. We will be gathering for worship for the first time in over 4 months! Our time together will be outside, and we will all be wearing masks and distancing from those outside our family group. In addition to our primary purpose of worship, we will also be officially welcoming me as your new pastor. Our search committee chair Joan Robinson and our moderator Bill Trubilowicz will both be participating in our service, as will two of our favorite guest musicians from Bay View – Tony Patterson and Casey Robards. Please plan to join us at 10:00 am in the garden on the west side of the church. For safety and health reasons, we need everyone to RSVP in advance of this service (please see information above). I hope you will make every effort to join us, as the service is going to be more than memorable. The theme for the day is laughter, and Lord knows we could all use a little of that these days!
*(For those unable to join us, the service WILL be recorded and posted early next week)

The Project of Painting the Church is Progressing!
We are asking members and friends of the First Congregational Church to help defray costs by contributing to the financial support so that we do not have to deplete a number of smaller funds that support unbudgeted expenditures that arise throughout the year.
Donations should be made out to First Congregational Church with “Painting Fund” on the memo line. An online donation can be made by accessing our churches website, and clicking on the ONLINE GIVING section, or you may send a check to the following:

We would like to thank you in advance for your prayerful consideration to this important project for our church building.
After many months of things being a little unorganized and wonky, we are working hard to get everything back to a “normal” routine. The church office is open with regular hours of Monday through Thursday from 9:00 am – 3:30 pm. You can reach Leah by phone at 231-547-9122 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org
Per the Church 411, each committee is asked to notify the office with the dates and times of their meetings (even if it is a Zoom meeting). This gives Leah the information she needs to update the office calendar and answer questions about the schedule, if asked. If you are meeting via Zoom, and need Leah to schedule your meeting and send out the invite, please be sure to request this early enough that she has adequate time to do this prior to the meeting. After the meeting, minutes need to be submitted to the church office, church clerk and the moderator. They should also be uploaded to the Dropbox consent agenda file. If you are unable to do this, just ask, someone can do it for you. Minutes need to be submitted to the office for upload no later than 3:00pm on the Thursday prior to Monday’s council meeting.
As a refresher, please take a moment to brush up on the church 411. If you have any questions, please give Leah, Linda Weller or Bill Trubilowicz a call. Thank you for everything you have done to continue the work of the church during this time!
